Yorkshire Terriers think fast and are quick to learn, but their abilities go beyond just learning games and tricks. These intelligent dogs will quickly become part of family life, taking an active role in daily occurrences; they will be waiting, ready to join in. Yorkies love games and are fast to pick up the rules and likely to beat you. The key word is fast. They quickly become a family member, your friend, sensing your moods. Their soft tongue will touch your hand when you are blue and listen to every word when you need someone to talk to. Quick to bond, their love will reach out and defy you not to love right back.
Because they are people-oriented, Yorkies love to do whatever you are doing- whether it is watching TV, gardening, hiking, or going for a car ride. A Yorkshire Terriers will become your buddy; you never feel alone with your faithful friend. Playful and inquisitive, you will never be without entertainment and these little dogs are a constant source of stories to tell your friends. You just gotta love them.
These dogs quickly become a member of your family and so fully expect to be respected, and will object if they are not. They will adapt to any routine, even if it means being left alone for periods of time, as long as they also get play times. Yorkies get used to a structured existence and while this can be changed, they prefer an orderly life. The routine can be chaotic as long as it is organized chaos.
A great big plus, their coats don't shed, and another big plus, that "doggy" odour that bothers some people is non-existent. Trim their coats in the spring if you wish, but if you enjoy brushing them, let them grow. You’ll be glad you did.
